We left a 5 year residence in Baton Rouge Louisiana in 2014. Knowing very few people there, we explored many places, and we discovered the pristeen western prairie and the huge wildlife refuges that give safe haven to millions of birds. Great migratory flyways bring them from their northern homes during the cold months to stay in Louisiana for a few months or fly much further south.. The wet prairies lands are extremely flat offering an amazing view, and sadly offering land up to hurricanes as the waters from the Gulf can wander 6 miles inland if the storm is strong enough. A drive along the coastal highway there was heartbreaking to us...seeing the destruction of home and properties of families who have lived there for generations, and death of so many trees to salt water intrusion just since we left. Sadly, knowing if left unchecked, parts of Western Louisiana, including those precious refuges could be immersed in Gulf waters. We spent a lot of time in those beautiful refuges...crossing the Atchafalaya basin many many times finding nothing but the serenity of the refuges and the great Cajun foods we consumed at every opportunity to and fro. I began shooting on Dauphin Island AL our first night away from Atlanta, and ended up with a few distant shots of seagull happy hour at Biloxi MS on our way home. In between was a week of extreme joy. The refuges sparked my complete love of bird and nature photography beginning in 2009. Enjoy and purchase if you have a mind to. If you have questions, get in touch. I will try to answer as best I can. Thanks for looking. ~Lizi
