Cat Island NWR in Louisiana near St Francisville is home to a good number of virgin stately cypress trees including the largest in the USA. The area is in the Mississippi River bottoms and under water a good bit of the year. It is well worth the short hike into the forrest to see these magnificent 1000 year old trees that have suffered loss elsewhere to poor stewardship of an unsustainable treasure. This trees in this painting are part of this iconic refuge. It is acrylic; hand painted on cradled birch plywood which is roughly 2 inches deep. The painting is 9 x 12 inches. copyrighted.
